- Not: Both parts refer to the past; neither happened.

- Contractions: I'd have = I would have; hadn't = had not.
- TR: If I'd known = Bilseydim.
- Modal shades: would have (certain), could have (ability), might have (possibility).
- Inversion (formal): Had I known, I would have stayed. (= If I had known...)
