  • Kural 1: Kişiye aitlik: isim + 's (Ali's car). Çoğul -s biterse sadece ' (girls' room).
  • Kural 2: its (onun) ile it's (it is) farklı şeyler — karıştırma.
  • Kural 3: Sahiplik sıfatı + isim ister: my car. Sahiplik zamiri tek başına: mine.
  • Kural 4: have got = have (sahiplik): I have got a car. Olumsuz: haven't got.
  • Kural 5: Whose sorusu aitlik sorar: Whose bag is this?
  • Kural 6: İsimden sonra of değil 's (kişi için): Ali's mother (değil: mother of Ali).
  • Kural 7: Zaman ifadelerinde de 's olur: today's news, two weeks' holiday.
  • Kural 8: Aile çoğulu: the Yılmazs = Yılmaz ailesi (the + soyadı + s).
  • Kural 9: have got sorusu any ile: Have you got any brothers?
  • Kural 10: Kısa cevap: Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.
  • Kural 11: have got AmE'de daha az kullanılır, have tercih edilir.

3 classic trapsWhere Turkish speakers slip.

Bu bölümdeki 3 tuzağa tek bakışta dikkat et.

  • my + isim şart, mine tek başına: ✗ This is mine car. → ✓ This is my car. / This car is mine; ✗ It is her book. / It is hers book. → ✓ It is her book. / It is hers — Zamirden sonra isim gelmez: mine, yours, hers, ours, theirs.
  • its vs it's çukuru: ✗ The cat lost it's tail. → ✓ The cat lost its tail — it's her zaman "it is / it has" kısaltmasıdır; Test: yerine "it is" koy, anlamlıysa it's, değilse its.
  • Çoğul 's yerleşimi: ✗ the girl's room (birçok kızın odasıysa) → ✓ the girls' room — Tekil: the girl's room (bir kız). Çoğul: the girls' room; Düzensiz çoğulda yine 's: children's, women's.
