- Kural 1: YER: in (içinde: in a box), on (üstünde: on the table), at (nokta: at school).
- Kural 2: ZAMAN: in (ay/yıl/mevsim: in May), on (gün: on Monday), at (saat: at 5).
- Kural 3: Hareket: go to (yön), come from (kaynak), get on/off, go into/out of.
- Kural 4: Sıralı ezber: ay→in, gün→on, saat→at (in May, on Monday, at 7).

- Gün = on, saat = at, ay = in: ✗ in Monday, at May → ✓ on Monday, in May; ✗ on 7 o'clock → ✓ at 7 o'clock — Üçlüyü cümleyle ezberle: at 5 on Monday in May.
- at home'da the yok: ✗ at the home → ✓ at home — Aynı kalıp: at work, at school, in bed, to bed; Ama bina olaraksa the gelir: in the school building.
- to'dan sonra fiil değil isim gelir: ✗ I go to play. (yön yoksa) → ✓ I go to school. / I want to play — to + yer ismi (yön), to + fiil (amaç) — ikisi farklı to; from eşleşmesi: from ... to ... (from Ankara to İzmir).
